Explore Zaanse Schans
Zaandam, Netherlands
Description

If you are looking for something different to do for a few hours outside of Amsterdam and you don’t have a car, check this out.
Even in the pouring rain we still spent about 2 hours here. It’s fun to walk around and check out the buildings; plus it’s a beautiful setting. This is considered an “open air museum;” a Dutch village was recreated via houses and windmills dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries.
Places you can check out:
- The Albert Heijn museum shop/Museumwinkel Albert Heijn
- A bakery museum/The Gecroonde Duyvekater'
- The Verkade Experience
- Several of the cottages and mills

Reviews
If you are visiting Amsterdam and consider a small gateway to the dutch countryside, combined with a visit to the famous wind mills, then this is a great option. Easily accessible and quite interesting. We actually has a tour inside one of the windmills and it was really interesting and I recommend it.
