Fort Needham Memorial Park
Halifax, Nova Scotia
Description

Fort Needham by far my favorite park in Halifax. We stumbled upon it completely by accident and was pleasantly surprised to find that the entire park was a memorial and is beautifully done. The landscaping has been designed to tell the story of the Halifax explosion. A must for history buffs. Incredible green space in the city overlooking the harbor where 2 ships collided on December 6, 1917. Destroying the North End of Halifax. Steel retaining walls are engraved with statistics about the people and ships involved in the disaster. Accessible parking can be found at the south end of the park near the new wooden playground. You will also find a well maintained restroom there. A large field is available at the top of the hill that is popular with dog owners.
Very nice place to go for a walk, take your dog, or play sports. It has a few access points and a small parking lot. But street parking is also available within couple minutes. The park is in the heart of the city and is surrounded by lots of houses and streets.
