Description
Added by Dan Deublein
A historically rich trail that leads you to the wreckage of an 1800's steam locomotive.
The trail begins towards the backside of Kicking Horse camp area near the washrooms. Please know that access to this area is typically closed between October and June. Look for the large trail sign and be sure to grab a brochure to enjoy the self-guided tour. The brochures may not be available, so I would advising downloading it here before you arrive.
The trail will initially pass a fallen tree with a fading "Walk In The Past" carved into its side. You will start to ascend as you enter the lush green forest. Keep a lookout for each trail marker and refer to the brochure as it will set the stage for this historical hike.
Shortly after Marker #2, you will approach the TransCanada Highway bridge with railroad tracks coursing beneath. You must be aware of trains as you must cross the tracks to continue upon the trail.
After crossing the railroad tracks, you will soon reach a road (the old railroad path) that intersects Markers #5 & #6. The path will appear near Marker #6 which will lead you towards a two plank bridge over a small trickling stream.
Continue for a short distance and you will discover the wreckage of an 1800's Baldwin Steam Locomotive and Coal Hauler. To return to the trailhead simply reverse your hike in the way that you came.

Reviews
A family hike more so, especially for train fans. Not overly difficult. Some steep parts. The reward is the remains of a century old steam train. I'd recommend grabbing a pamphlet.
