Explore mossy woods filled with aspen, hemlock, birch, and golden larch trees along the shoreline Sullivan Lake! Total mileage: 8.2 miles, roundtrip. Elevation gain: 250 feet. Highest point: 2,840 feet.
Drive north on SR 31 almost to Ione, Washington and turn right on Sullivan Lake Road. Follow the road around the lake to the East Sullivan Lake campground. We had to park outside the campground because of construction and walk to the trailhead.
From the marked trailhead, hike through the 0.6 nature walk and turn right at the fork to continue on the lakeshore trail. The next mile winds through a damp and mossy forest and out to a viewpoint of the lake! From here, take in the views of the golden larches (in the fall) and the lake beneath Hall Mountain.
Continue to follow the trail along the shoreline and make sure to explore the rocky beaches! Then, cross the creek and hike down into Noisy Creek campground. From here, hike back the way you came or leave a car at Noisy Creek campground and drive back to the trailhead.
Exploring this lake in the fall and seeing the alpine larches paint the hillside gold is amazing! This is also a great trail to snowshoe in the winter!
