An easy trail system with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean, Carmel Point and Point Lobos. Relax on the beach for a picnic or catch the Milky Way way during the summer dark nights.
Known as "Ribera Beach" by locals, this stretch of land nestled between Carmel River State Beach and Monastery Beach is not to be missed! The trails are easy to get to and can be accessed by 4 locations. The first entrance is on Highway 1 at the Bay School (between Ribera Road and Monastery Beach in Carmel). There is a small parking lot in the eucalyptus trees. The second entrance is on Ribera Road. Turn onto Ribera Road and drive it all the way to the end. There are two access points here, 1 going down a long flight of stairs and the other goes to the top of the ridge where there are benches and an excellent view. The third access point is in the same neighborhood off of the court, Calle La Cruz. The last access point can be reached from the Carmel River State Parking Lot. Just walk south on the beach and look for stairs.
In the late summer, when the fog is gone, this is an excellent spot for star gazing and finding the Milky Way. The trail is great for dogs (on leash only). If you are a kayaker or paddle boarder, you can access the Carmel River from this trail. Enjoy!
Please note that this beach is very dangerous for swimmers. Please be cautious near the waters edge and never turn your back on the ocean.
