A beautiful short hike in the heart of the park will take you to a little waterfall, past blankets of ferns, and through the woods of the Grayson Highlands.
Starting at the Massie Gap Parking Area follow the paved road down towards the woods. You will see a gravel dirt path off the side of the road to your right that heads back towards the woods. A couple steps down the trail you will see a metal pole with "Cabin Creek Trail" written on it. Follow the beaten path back into the woods and go straight across the horse trail and through a wooden fence. A couple hundred feet past the fence you will come to a wooden kiosk. From here you continue straight and follow the trail all the way around- it's well traveled so you won't miss it. About a half a mile into the hike you will come to the waterfall.
Right before you come to the waterfall you will see the Special Regulation/Stocked Trout signs along the river. This is a good place to begin fishing. From here either work your way up or down the stream. The river has stocked brown trout and wild rainbow trout.

My husband and I hiked the Cabin Creek Loop. We took an upper trail down to the waterfalls and hiked back along the creek. Beautiful and peaceful loved the waterfalls.

This hike is magnificent!!! So beautiful and peaceful! However, it may be a little difficult for a first time hiker. The trails are narrow with lots of tree roots and rocks. It's not that a beginner can't do it, just be aware! The waterfalls are beautiful and the trail is well kept. There was a brown park sign at the waterfalls that pointed back up to the Massie Gap parking lot and then pointed up the hill to "overlook". My group could not find the overlook nor a trail that lead to the overlook. Maybe someone else figured that out? Overall, GREAT HIKE!!
