Description

Nestled in the 2000+Acre Sycamore Canyon Preserve, the remains of the old Goodan family house still stand after a devastating forest fire.

Starting at the Sycamore Canyon Trail head, you will see the sign and gate that leads to Goodan Ranch. Head down the gravel road for 1.1 miles, until you reach a 3-way directional split. Heading straight for another .5 miles will take you directly to the ruins of the old Goodan house. Here you will find bathrooms, shaded resting areas, and water fountains. The visitor center, when open, has some cool artifacts, animals, and even resident pets to check out!

I recommend heading east at the 3 way split, which takes you on a very nice 1 mile detour around to the back of the ranch. Along this eastern route, you will see lush yellow and orange landscapes, towering oak canopies, and shady olive trees. This area is a old remnant of the community of Stowe, a prominent town in the early 1900's.

Take your time, and enjoy the peacefulness of a place forgotten in time. When ready, head back the way you came on the gravel road to your car!

Reviews

This area is quite fun and beautiful to hike in. There are many different trails to take all with their own beauty. I rode my horse through here as well and we encountered many hikers, bikers and runners. Great place to be and great to go on a misty morning that ends up being a beautiful sunny day.
