This a perfect family friendly hike for a Saturday morning adventure. Tucked away in the mountains behind busy Provo, Utah, you can find peaceful and beautiful scenery.
Arriving to Big Springs Hollow is relatively easy. Drive up Provo Canyon and turn right onto South Fork Rd at Vivian Park. As you pass Vivian Park, you'll continue for 3 miles on South Fork Rd until you reach Big Springs Park. Continue up to the Upper level parking and the trailhead will be in the SW corner. When we arrived early one Saturday, we found 4 or 5 tents scattered in camp sights near the trailhead.
You'll begin on the trail which has a steady but moderate incline. You'll cross over the creek a few time, walk over some man made bridges. After less than a mile you'll reach an open area where the trail becomes flat for a little bit, but soon after the trail starts to rise again. Keep following the trail and you'll reach a fork in the road with a sign: left to Big Springs Hollow 0.5 miles or right to Cascade Saddle 4.1 miles. Take a left and you'll continue for about 0.3 miles to a T junction in the road. Turn right at the T junction and Big Springs Hollow is about 0.2 miles ahead. The last 0.1 miles is the steepest part of the whole trail. From here you can turn around and go the way you came, or continue on the trail, over Big Springs Hollow and cross over the wooden bridge. This trail joins with the Cascade trail so take a hard right and the loop will bring you back the the original fork you came to earlier. Then you're on your way back home.

Reviews
This is definitely an "enjoy the journey" hike. The path is gorgeous in Fall and the scenery of the canyon is breathtaking. The trail had hardly anyone on it and there are great camping spots just odd the trail. The "destination" is underwhelming and I hiked right past it, still a well worth it hike.
