Hike to the highest point in the state of Louisiana. See beautiful wildflowers, wildlife and wild edible blackberries along this short hike.

This short, family friendly hike offers a peaceful walk in the North Louisiana woods. Multiple times, I've seen deer and rabbits on the trail. In spring and summer beautiful wildflowers line the trail from start to finish. It offers a great opportunity for anyone of any age to enjoy. The very gentle sloping trail can easily be walked, run, or mountain biked. The majority is shaded from the summer heat. Once on the top of Louisiana, you can even get a small view of the surrounding area. In winter when the the foliage is less, you can see further. The area surrounding the hike offers amazing BBQ, fishing, and entertainment just a short drive from the hike.

From Interstate 20 take exit 69 for Arcadia, Louisiana. Turn left and drive south on state route 151. Continue on route 151 for 1.5 miles. Then turn left onto state route 147/Jonesboro Rd. Continue on Jonesboro Rd for 9.3 miles. Then turn right onto state route 507. Stay on this route for 2.7 miles until you reach the First Presbyterian Church on your right There is also a black sign for Driskill Mountain. Park in the gravel parking lot near the cemetery. The trail head starts here. The trail is a very distinct red dirt trail. You will see two gates and two other blue blazed trails that veer off in different directions. Continue left at the first "Y" where there is currently a sign. After about 300 yards you will come to the second gate and a blue blazed trail veering off to the right. Don't follow that trail. Continue on the well marked trail and then stay right at the second "Y" in the trail as it veer upward to the top.

If you are looking for the Best BBQ in the South, then drive 15 miles east to exit 84 on Interstate 20 in Ruston, Louisiana, for Bristers Smokehouse. Turn left at the exit and Bristers is about a mile down on the right. Order the World Famous Scatterload BBQ sandwich on their Jalapeno bread with potato salad and a sweet tea. It was so good that I ate it for lunch back-to-back days.
