Kanarra Falls is an intermediate to advanced 3.5-mile hike. There is some scrambling involved, climbing up at least two waterfalls. Duration: A few hours.
This hidden gem of a hike takes you into the Kanarraville slot canyons in southern Utah and the infamous Kanarra Falls. After hiking a half a mile or so from the parking lot on a fairly open trail the canyon slots up. This is where the fun begins. Here you will have to walk through the water into the slot canyon, following the water upstream the rest of the way. After another half mile you will be treated to one of the coolest 15-foot waterfalls you will ever see. You will have to climb up a tree trunk/ladder to the right before you reach another waterfall. Scramble up the canyon to the right to keep going for more cascading falls. You can keep going as far as you like as the canyon opens up or turn around and follow the same route back to the parking lot.
This canyon is located in the town of Kanarraville, north of Kolob Canyon, Utah. GPS Kanarraville, Utah, then as you drive into the downtown on Old US Hwy 91 (which becomes Main Street), look for E 100 N St and drive east three blocks until you reach the gated dirt road that heads up into the hills. Park in the lot to the left ( GPS 345 E 100 N St. Kanarraville, UT 84742)
Hiking Kanarra Falls requires a hiking permit. Permits can be purchased for $12 per person online at kanarrafalls.com. The permit includes parking at both the Town and Sweet Spot parking lots. If available, hiking permits may be available at the Kanarra Falls trailhead during staffed hours, but the transaction will be credit card/debit only. No cash transactions will be allowed and there are no refunds. A daily group permit is also available.

So fun! It reminded me of The Narrows but not crowded at all. Climbed up the sketchy ladder and nearly had a panic attack. There are some loose bits! Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area!

Prefacing this by saying the hike itself and the scenery is great 5/5. The canyons are gorgeous, the amount of people each day is limited, the light shadows are awesome and the small waterfalls are gorgeous. However, it was a terrible idea to install new steel staircases in a pristine canyon by those who "caretake" for this place. I hiked this prior to the installation of giant staircases which are for safety however it goes without saying if you cant climb a ladder or aren't comfortable hiking you should not be hiking this trail.

This is one of my all time favorite hikes. The combination of being in a slot canyon and climbing waterfalls makes it exciting and fun. The canyon is absolutely beautiful.

These falls were incredible. I came here specifically for photography and it didn't disappoint. Make sure you bring some solid sandals (chaco style worked great).

I went late morning in early January and ran into only 2 other people that morning which left some awesome solitude time. I hiked with neoprene socks and chacos since there was some snow and also needed micro spikes in some parts.

You will be walking in water at least half the hike! A permit is now required $8. Well worth it. There are 2 ladders, the second one is very sketchy. Not recommended for people with knee injury or small children. There is a natural slide past the second ladder that goes into a small pool.

You're paying a rather small price for what is actually an amazing place for photography. Highly recommend going here early in the morning to beat the crowds so you don't have to awkwardly stand in the middle of the river with a tripod while people begin to stand behind you getting irritated. Take a ton of pictures, explore and get creative. Be careful on the ladders, there were multiple people we saw that day that fell off the ladder and ended up in the water. After passing the second ladder there isn't too much more, hiking eventually turns into bush-wacking.

This is a great hike! the canyon is beautiful and walking through the water is fun. A must do.

Loved this hike... if you hike further past the first waterfall there is a natural waterslide and a lot less people! Water is pretty cold even in the hot summer, just wait for your feet to numb and all will be well.
