Located off the beaten path at the northern end of the Long Beach Peninsula, Leadbetter Point State Park is great year around destination to explore in Southwest Washington. Within the park there is ample opportunity to watch huge Pacific Ocean waves crash on shore, beach comb, bird watch, and spot wildlife such as blacktail deer, black bear, or bobcat while on your hike.
The park itself offers roughly 7 miles of hiking trails which can be combined into multiple different loops. Additionally adjacent to the State Park is the Willapa Bay National Wildlife Refuge which offers addition options for your hike depending on how far you want to go. Be sure to check out a map of the area when planning your trip. Some of the trails in this area can be seasonally underwater or flooded from high tides or abundant precipitation, be prepared to get your feet wet!
Be aware of the Snowy Plover nesting areas that are off limits to recreation due to their listing as an Endangered Species. There are many signs telling hikers where to avoid. Please make sure to follow the rules and stay within the areas that are permitted.
Depending on the time of year there may be opportunities to clam dig or surf fish on the Pacific Ocean Beaches but please check with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife to ensure the seasons are open.
