Wildflowers, pine forests, high-alpine lakes and rocky ridgelines, this hike has it all. Put this summit on your must do list!
This mountain can be conquered two ways and is a great after-work adventure to watch the sunset, an early morning trail run, or a fun family challenge. The trail is 4 miles and 1,425 feet elevation gain (from the Alta side) or 6 miles and 2,050 feet (from the Brighton side).
Both routes converge on Catherine Pass, which can be reach from the Brighton side by trekking past Lake Mary, Martha and Catherine; or from the Alta side by marching up to Catherine Pass from the midway parking lot. Both routes are beautiful.
From Catherine Pass, take the trail heading north up a steep incline to top of Mount Tuscarora. Here, you’re looking down on Lake Mary, Martha and Catherine and the forested top of Big Cottonwood Canyon.
Keep marching east another quarter of a mile to Mount Wolverine where you’ll be rewarded with gorgeous views looking into Albion Basin and Devil’s Castle to the south. If you summit in July, you’ll be surrounded by wildflowers.
Not a bad way to spend a few hours in the mountains.
