An amazing scenic hike on Mount Zas(Zeus). It is believed to be the birthplace of the Greek God in the famous cave located on the mountain.
The birth place for the God Zeus, you enter through the easier part of the mountain called Aria Spring/Cave of Zeus. Getting there from the center of Naxos is about a 12 kilometer 4wheeler ride to the base of the mountain. Travelling is very easy, there are signs up in English to point you in the right direction. You will pass through a few villages with plenty of local restaurants you can stop at to get a bite or a drink. When you reach the town of Filoti, there will be a sign that is marked Cave of Zeus and you will turn right. When you arrive at the base of the mountain, you will see a little house that has water and a pathway you can follow up. Once you get to the cave doorway, you can go into the cave and do a little bit exploring. After that the middle portion can be difficult to see, but not that hard to follow it up. After this the trail becomes more undeveloped and you can see the summit. You can see wild lizards and goats all around. There are plenty of spots to stop and eat your lunch or just enjoy the view. To get back, just return the same way you came. It is an amazing experience that everyone should do.
