Get great views of Salt Lake City to the West and the Wasatch Range to the East. This beautiful trail hikes through Douglas Fir, Oak, and Aspen Trees.
The trail begins right on Wasatch Blvd. and after the first 0.5 miles you're into the Superior Wilderness. This is a very strenuous hike and you will be gaining elevation the whole way from the parking lot (4830 ft) to the summit (9026 ft).
About .2 mile from the summit you will reach a saddle. The ground is flat here, the view is great, and it's a good place to rest on the way up or eat lunch on the way down. The last 0.1 mile requires some scrambling on loose rock, so take your time and be careful. The summit is also very rocky, but the views are worth it. You get a great view of Salt Lake City to the West, Lone Peak to the South, the Wasatch Range to the East, and the University of Utah area to the North. Make sure to bring your camera!

This was my first hike west of the Rockies and definitely wasn't easy. Wasn't quite ready for the altitude after living on the east coast and with over 1000ft of elevation gain per mile, minimal tree cover, and a near vertical rock scramble I wouldn't really consider it "intermediate." Really enjoyed the challenge, but needed lots of breaks. The scramble was my favorite part. I had 2L of water and ran out with a mile or so to go so make sure to bring plenty.

This hike is a workout for sure but awesome! I enjoyed it in the winter and would definitely recommend ice cleats for the scramble at the end.

A pretty tough hike that had my legs quite sore. The last mile or so was covered in snow and the summit had an unreal view of the surrounding area. If you're in the area and enjoy a good hike, put this at the top of your list!

If anyone is looking for a fall hike near Salt Lake City, this one is a great choice. The fall colors are beautiful, particularly in the trees near the saddle.

It was pretty steep, pretty long, but definitely worth. Totally recommend it! The class 3 scramble at the top is a ton of fun.

Olympus is so stout that I often don't catch my breath till I am back at the car. Such a beautiful view of the city and even some exciting scrambling near the summit. Be warned: there are loads of rattle snakes along this trail in the summer time so keep an eye and ear out for slithery things.
