This dog-friendly trail is easy to access and makes for a great for an evening, after work hike/run. Enjoy views of Indian Peaks Wilderness and Longs Peak.

This is a great hike/trail run in Boulder County. It is located between Longmont and Lyons and is part of Boulder County Open Space. Rabbit Mountain has over 5 miles of trails and 2,733 acres of beautiful open space. The views are incredible as most of your hike you are looking out at the entire Indian Peaks Wilderness area. This area is known for rattlesnakes and they have been spotted right off the trail, so pay attention. Deer, fox and coyote live in the area as well.

The Eagle Wind Trail is 3.95 miles and starts at an elevation of 5,530 feet. It is a loop trail so you end at the same elevation, but gain 472 feet throughout the trail. While the sunsets are amazing from the trail, be sure any photos you take are from the parking lot as the sun sets. The park is open from sunrise to sunset and Boulder County means it. They go by official times that you can find on the internet and will ticket you if you are not down by then. When you are done with your workout, head over to Oskar Blues Brewery in Lyons (less than 5 miles away) for awesome beer and appetizers/dinner.

Kind of a nice short set of trails tucked away by the foothills. Cool spot

I've been to Rabbit Mountain quite a few times over the past year or so and I love it. The views of the Indian Peaks, Longs Peak and Mount Meeker are spectacular. The sunsets are awesome but the Boulder County tickets are very real so be gone from the parking lot by sunset. The Eagle Wind Trail and the Little Thompson Overlook Trail are fun to run or hike but they are rocky and somewhat technical in places. If you really want a solid trail running workout try the Indian Mesa Trail. It's essentially a dirt road but there's significant elevation change and hardly a level spot throughout. You can focus on how hard you're working without worrying about your footing as much. Rabbit Mountain is a great way to get outdoors when you don't have a lot of time.

I definitely love this hike. Offers great views on the Indian Peaks and northern Front Range. Relatively little elevation gain for Colorado makes this an easy and enjoyable hike.
