Hike Ramapo Torne

Located at the south end of Harriman State Park, this moderate loop hike takes you to two awesome panoramic views, then passes by the cascades of Stony Brook.

The hike begins on the Pine Meadow Trail (red-on-white blazes), at Reeves Meadow Visitors Center. Continue for a short distance, then turn left onto Seven Hills Trail (blue-on-white). About 1.5 miles into the hike, you will reach at T-intersection – keep left to stay on Seven Hills.

A series of steep ascents begin here, taking you to the top of a ridge, where the trail crosses with the Hillburn-Torne-Sebago (HTS) Trail (orange). Turn right onto the HTS Trail and follow the ridge of Ramapo Torne. Soon you will reach the first panoramic view, with views over the Torne Valley and Hillburn.

After taking in the sights, double back to Seven Hills Trail, which joins up with the HTS Trail. When the trails split, keep onto the HTS Trail, descending into a valley, then climbing towards a clifftop. A flight of stone steps will take you up the final ascent, a climb rewarded by another vista lookout over Torne Valley.

Continue along the HTS Trail as it begins to descend, passing the junction with Raccoon Brook Hills Trail. The trail then joins with the Pine Meadow Trail – stay on Pine Meadow Trail when the HTS Trail splits off to the right. After crossing over Quartz Brook, turn left at the junction, hiking alongside Stony Brook and its beautiful cascades. This route will take you back to the parking lot where you began.
