Take in amazing views of Mt. Baker, the North Cascades, Mt. Shuksan, and the Puget Sound. This trail is great for a dayhike or an overnighter. Enjoy the picture perfect setting for hikes and photography.

If driving 13 miles on a forest road, and hiking miles of switchbacks doesn't bother you, your in for one of the most exquisite views that you can get from hiking in Washington state.

Just a mile outside of the town of Glacier, turn onto Forest Road 37 and follow it up switchbacks for the majority of the 13 miles, from here you'll arrive at the Skyline Divide trail head. Start the hike by heading over to the trail at the left end of the parking lot. For the next 2 miles you'll be climbing just over 1500 feet in elevation. These switchbacks can be somewhat strenuous, especially if your backpacking, so take your time and be sure to refuel! After these 2 miles the grind of the hike is ultimately behind you. The trail will lead you on top of the one of the closest ridges of Mt. Baker. By now you'll have forgotten the 2 miles of switchbacks you just climbed, and be in awe with the unrivaled views you have of Mt. Baker, and Mt. Shuksan. With the green covered hills and large amounts of wild flowers, Skyline Divide is something of a summer paradise. If your backpacking there are some great spots to setup camp if you follow the trail and ridge to the left, if not you can follow the trail for an additional 2.5 miles, following the ridge to the right and passing many knolls as it takes you closer and closer to Mt. Baker. I highly recommended backpacking here, the views during dawn and dusk of the North Cascade range, Mt. Shuksan, Mt. Baker, and the Puget Sound are second too none. Either if your looking for a day hike or overnight trip this is a must for everyone.

On your way out of town stop by Graham's Restaurant in the small town of Glacier. Their food and service is great, they also have a good selection of beverages on tap. Happy hiking!

Reviews

Every bug (which there are millions of on this trail) and every switchback is worth it. Jaw dropping views are at the very top, along with free camping! Be prepared to be surrounded by at least 15+ more people at the top- go to the right and continue up the hill for less people and more awesome views!
