This is the perfect hike for a short snowshoeing adventure. The lake is beautiful with a waterfall right in the center and many other small falls around it. On a clear day you get a wonderful view of Mt. St. Helens.
In the winter you will need to start at Marble Mt. Snowpark and purchase a snow park permit. The hike starts here on the eastern side. Follow the Pine Ski Trail for about 1 mile along NF-83 Road. Then follow the June lake Trailhead up to June lake for about 1.5 miles. You will come to June lake at this point. It is an easy hike to the lake and beautiful in the snow. From here you can continue on a loop that goes to chocolate falls or head back the way you went up. To go to Chocolate Falls, follow the Pica Trail to the Swift Creek Ski trail and head back down. This will take you straight back to the snowpark. The out and back hike is around 5.25 miles, the loop is around 7 miles.

Reviews
We did this hike January 5 and there was a lot of snow on the ground but most of it was compact and snowshoes were not needed. We went on a clear day and there were great views of Mount St. Helens covered in snow. The hike is easy and good for all ages and fitness levels. I'm not sure when the last reviewer went on this hike (most likely during the week) but there are ALWAYS crowds on the weekends (also why the parking lot is so big, to accommodate all the vehicles). Keep an eye on the ground for piles of dog poop- unfortunately they are everywhere and people are failing to pick up after their pets.

This hike is a small beauty both summer & winter. Never a crowd.
