Escape the crowds and explore this hidden gem of the Spray Valley.
South of the Driftwood turnoff (approximately 4 km) on Spray/Smith-Dorrien Trail a large creek bed on the east of the road is the beginning of Spencer Creek. The trail is easy enough to find, just have to do a bit of looking.
Once on the trail, you'll basically have no trouble at all. The trail itself rises above the creek until you gain the plateau, but you can also drop down into the creek bed and follow that up if you feel like hopping over boulders.
That's all I'll say about the trail, because there really isn't anything to it. The thing I was surprised about is how much fun I had. I'm usually an elevation junkie, but this was a really relaxing hike in a pretty incredible area. The creek goes in between Mount Lougheed and Mount Sparrowhawk, so you're enclosed by mountains with a carved bedrock creek. It's really neat to experience and you should definitely put it on your list.
Take some time on your way back through the forest to really experience the creek that runs through it. It feels like a dream.
