The Black Star Canyon Trail is a "best kept secret" in Orange County, offering hiking and a bit of scrambling / bouldering at the end - just before you reach a waterfall oasis.

The Black Star Canyon Trail is 6.8 miles out and back, which allows dogs and mountain biking. This trail is also good for nature trips and birding. The trail follows a river and you will pass by some interesting caves. The trail is open year round, but is best experienced after it rains to ensure the stream and waterfall are flowing. Beware of poison oak!

You can access the trail via Highway 241 at Santiago Canyon. Turn left onto Silvarado Canyon and take another left onto Black Star Canyon Road. Park on the road.

Black Star Canyon is an important archaeological site as it used to be home to the Black Star Coal Mining Company in the 1800s. In 1831, there was a battle between American fur trappers and a group of Native Americans.
