Description

Scenic hike with longer loops available.
The parking area is about 50 yards down the dirt driveway on your right. Take care in the spring, as the parking lot can become a mud pit!
This wildlife refuge is a series of loops which lead to three different ponds. These directions are for the 'Pond One' loop. When you start on the trail, stay straight. There are numbered markers on the right hand side of the trail to guide you. About half a mile in, there will be a sign on the right that says 'Pond Overlook'. This will take you down a short hill to 'Pond One', where, if you're quiet, you may see some beaver working hard on their dam. Backtrack up the hill and continue down the path. You will soon come to an intersection; for this loop, go left. This is a short connector path between this smaller loop trail and the longer one that leads out to 'Pond Two' and 'Pond Three'. When you come to the end of this connector, take a left and continue on the path through the pine forest. This forest is a popular location for owls, especially at sunset. The path will take you down a steep hill, and you should take a right here to go back to the parking lot.
Great spot for snowshoeing and cross country skiing in the winter!
To explore the other ponds, ignore the connecting path and take a right. In a third of a mile there will be a small path on the right leading to power lines - follow the trail markers (look for painted rocks) across the power lines and down into another pine forest. There are always beaver at these two ponds - bring your camera!
