A quick hike to a unique river-side cave hidden among the cornfields of Ohio.
Cedarville, Ohio is known for its expansive farmland, but in the Indian Mounds Park you'll find several unique features, such as the cavern located on the Gorge Trail! This cave is formed out of the side of a cliff and is perfect for easy exploration and climbing. When the water is low enough you can walk out on the rocks in and around the Massies Creek and get nice views of the water and cliffside itself. Be sure to bring good shoes as it can be quite slippery in this area!
To get to the trail, go to the Waterfall entrance of Indian Mounds on W Xenia Ave and turn left after you walk across the bridge. About a half mile in, there is a sign labeled "Gorge Trail" that leads down a set of stairs to the left.
A new bridge was recently installed near the cavern, so this is also the easiest spot to cross the creek. This is my favorite spot in the park and the first adventure I think of to show anyone visiting the area.

Reviews
I am from Dayton, and I love doing this trail whenever I'm back in town. I prefer to start at the Indian Mound, and then take the gorge trail all the way to Cedar Cliff Falls. It's a beautiful, well-marked trail that is definitely worth a visit!

Sometimes a bit crowded on the trails, but usually not too bad. This is a beautiful hike and is a welcome change of scenery from the local corn fields. You'll even get a bit of a workout in walking up and down the stairs!
