The North Chickamauga Gorge Trail Segment of the Cumberland Trail is a hidden gem that's right outside of Chattanooga with 7.23 miles of hiking trails. If you go in the winter you'll likely have it all to yourself and the water in the creek is usually teal because of the amount of rain we get (Kayakers love the water during this time). Go in the fall and you will see spectacular colors from the leaves and in the summer, people come to hike, swim, and jump in the blue holes. Hike the Hogskin Loop for a short, scenic hike.

After an easy 25 minute drive from Chattanooga you will reach North Chickamauga Gorge on Montlake Road in Soddy Daisy. Park any where in the gravel loop just make sure other cars can get through. From the Montlake Road Trailhead Kiosk the trail begins on an old mining road. Hogskin Upper Loop Trail branches off to right (you will see a metal pole) and begins uphill climb (continue to the left once you reach the top of the climb). You will cross a small waterfall on your right and there will be a trail to your left once you've crossed the waterfall (approximately mile 0.6). It isn't well marked but take the left and head back down to the Lower Hogskin Loop. This is a pretty steep decline and it will lead you all the way back down to Chickamauga Creek. Continue left at the bottom and follow the creek all the way back to the parking lot. There are several side trails that give you creek access along the way back. Bring a swimsuit and take a dip in one of the blue holes if it is summer time!
