This is a fun easy hike that is great for families but still a decent workout too. Just 40 miles from Atlanta with bathrooms and easy parking at the trailhead, you'll find beautiful views at the summit.

The Sawnee Mountain Preserve is easy to get to with a GPS and offers plenty of parking. To get to the Indian Seats Trail you will start down a short (.17 mile) trail that will take you to the trailhead. The Indian Seats Trail is a loop so once you reach the marked trail you can go either left or right (all roads lead to the Indian Seats). The trail will take you around to the backside of the mountain where you will begin your ascent up a few switchbacks. The hike features both evergreens and deciduous trees, so hiking in October and November will offer some of Georgia's beautiful fall foliage. There are also a few gated goldmine entrances along the way. The hike is well marked so finding your way to the summit should not be a problem.

The overlook offers a beautiful view of Georgia's Blue Ridge mountains as well as the sunset (The summit faces Northwest). The trail is named after the natural indentations in the rocks at the top of the mountain. It is said that this is where the Cherokee Indians would sit and meditate. This is a perfect day hike if you don't have time to make it up to North GA, but still want to feel like you are out of the city.

Lots of shade. Kid friendly. Beautiful view.

This is a good hike for a family of all ages. There is some rocky terrain and roots that may trip people up but if you are slow and pay attention even the youngest can manage it with help.

This trail is beautiful and certainly well-loved by GA hikers. Go for sunrise or sunset (sunrise probably less people) and the view is gorgeous.

Go early!! This is a popular trail. We arrived at 8:30 am and there was a good bit of people there. We left at 11 and the entire parking area was full. I imagine the view at the top was less than pleasant with that many people. Easy trail, a bit rocky..I wished I would have worn my hiking boots for more support. Easy for kids, we took our 6 yr old and he did great.

A short hike to a beautiful view ❤

This trail is a really good trail that is within about 45 minutes from Atlanta. The Indian Seats trail is certainly one of the more popular trails in the area, but with good reason. On a clear day at the summit, you get an awesome view of the Blue Ridge mountains in Northern Georgia. The uphill is pretty mild for the whole trail, but significant enough to make it a decent exercise. If you want to combine this trail with another fun North Georgia activity, there are more than a handful of very nice wineries about 20 minutes north of here on the Dahlonega Plateau.

Very easy hike. Went by quickly. View is okay, but still fun to climb on the rocks at the top.

It's a great view that is breath taking but the only problem is the MASSIVE amount of people! You'll have to shoulder your way threw people to see it.

We enjoyed the forest and the gorgeous view at the top! Only downside, it's very popular.
