A short but challenging hike just outside Melbourne with stunning views of the park once you get to the top. Bring your swimsuit to take advantage of the pools at the Graham's Dam before you head back to the car!
Please note that this walk is quite steep, so leave ample time to get up and down the walk. As well, please note that water levels can vary on the Lerderderg River, so ensure you are prepared to get a little wet at certain times of the year!
From the parking lot, walk through the picnic area and walk to the right as identified by the Lerderderg Circuit Walk signs, following the river. The first 3 kms of walking takes you to Graham's Dam, where you can go for a swim after your walk if you choose.
From Graham's Dam, follow the bath to the left, which heads steadily up the hill for 1km (Link 1). Once you get to the top, follow the 4WD track to the right, walking along the top of the hill. You will pass a signpost identifying other, longer, tracks that go to Mt Backwood. Here, follow the Link 2 track back down the hill. Here are some of the best views as you head down the mountain. Take your time as this area is quite steep!
Once you reach the bottom of the gorge, follow the river south along the track until you reach Graham's Dam again, following the track back to the carpark.

Reviews
I really enjoyed the challenging walk and I thought the views at the top were beautiful.

5hours of technical, flat terrain, followed by an absolute wall of hills for the last 4kms. Proud I finished it, but really wish there was an incredible view at the top ☺️
