A scenic hike along the Meramec River, with views above and alongside the banks.
This hike in Castlewood State Park gives you multiple vantage points on the Meramec River. Follow the red arrows as the trail heads out on the bluffs. You will then descend a staircase into the valley, leading to the river and a floodplain forest.

amazing hike with up close and panoramic overlook views of the Merimack river.

Fairly easy 3 mile loop. Half is on the flood plane of the Meramec River and the other half is up and down the ridge line (couple hundred foot rocky hike up on one end, 200 wooden steps on the other). The view from on top of the ridge is amazing with plenty of scenic lookouts.
