Hike through Muleshoe Bend Recreation Area

Spend all day wandering the endless fields of bluebonnets above the banks of the Colorado River in this hill country oasis. MuleshoeBend Recreation Area is just 50 minutes outside of Austin in Spicewood, TX. It has 540 acres of trails, camping, and picnic tables. The highlight of this park is the miles and miles of bluebonnets that bloom in mid March through late April making springtime the best time to visit, but also the most crowded.

There is a 5+ mile loop trail that meanders through the flowers. This trail is good for mountain biking or hiking and is appropriate for all skill levels as there are short interwoven loops threaded into the main trail for making your trip shorter or longer. After biking/hiking the trail, you can cool off by taking a swim in the river and then enjoy a nice picnic before heading home. There are 27 primitive campsites along a 2 mile stretch if you would like to extend your stay overnight. Make a reservation here.
