Take in beautiful 360 degree views of the Cascade Mountains with low light pollution for amazing night skies. This is a short hike for a big reward!
This is a relatively short hike, at only 2.6 miles round trip, that takes you up to the nearly 5600 foot summit. The hike may be short but it is extremely steep, gaining 1300ft in the 1.3 miles to the summit, so be prepared for a good leg workout. On the way to the top you will walk through fields of wildflowers if the time of year is right. I went in early August and it was beautiful. At the top you'll find beautiful 360 degree views of the Cascade Mountains. There is also a lookout tower at the top that can be reserved for the night, but only from August-October. You can book up to 6 months in advance so book early.
The hike is a good distance from any city so there is hardly any light pollution in the sky. This makes for some amazing views of the night sky on a clear night. Also make sure to go near a new moon so you'll really be able to see the stars.
For the location of the hike Google these coordinates: 47.8264, -121.2771.
If you're looking to grab a bite afterward, head to Old School BBQ in Monroe. It's the school bus right on the side of Hwy 2. Delicious BBQ made by a couple from Texas.

Reviews
The drive up the trail head was amazing, the road was well maintained, views abundant and the road gets you as close to the lookout as a road could go. The hike is short but all uphill, incredible views from the moment you step foot on the trail. We hiked in at night and camped up next to the lookout hoping to catch a sunrise but instead woke up in the clouds. As we broke camp the clouds broke up and revealed stunning views all around. There is only room for 2 tents, maybe 3 if you really squeezed them in just below the lookout on the ridge line. The lookout is boarded up all summer for maintenance, no attempts to enter it should be made. upon closer inspection previous parties had attempted to open a window to get in and ended up breaking one of the historic lookouts windows in the attempt. The trailhead sign said it'd be closed for crucial maintenance all summer so just be aware the lookout itself is a no go but the hike and views are still world class and there is a spot to camp up there!

Did this hike on our way out to Leavenworth from Seattle, the drive to the trailhead may not be suitable for all cars as much of it is a gravel road wide enough for one car with some spots having significant road damage. Once at the trailhead it's a quick pop up to the lookout and a good chance you will have it to yourself as it is a fairly remote spot to access.
