Take an easy hike to a "locals-only" pristine 60ft waterfall on the West end of Puerto Rico.

Gozalandia Falls, located in San Sebastian, Puerto Rico - on the West side of the island, features a 60ft+ tall waterfall as the main attraction. The area also has an 'upper-falls' with another swimming area and rope swing. Both tend to get full on hot summer days, so come early and stay for lunch!

It is $5 to park, usually there are attendants to pay in the parking lot but occasionally you need to go inside the restaurant to pay. The "hike" is very short, if it has rained recently it may be a little slippery but overall it is very easy to get to from the grass parking lot. The trail is a mixture of hard sand and a paved path with steps. Continue on the trail past the main falls if you want to see the upper falls. You will see the falls down to your left on the trail, keep following and it will lead you to the base of the falls.

The main falls features a small half-submerged cave to dive or swim into. You can also take a leap of faith and climb the waterfall to a point where the locals jump from. The path can be slippery but definitely do-able with water shoes and the assistance of the ropes that are tied off throughout the falls. This area also features a shallow area where many families come with children - it is big enough for 30 or so people to hangout comfortably.

The jump itself is about 30ft, so if you seek adventure - definitely explore the main falls! Maybe watch a few locals do it first to settle in.

The 'upper falls' has a great rope swing, and this area tends to be less busy since its about another 1/4 mile hike from the main fall. A few rocks to jump off of as well but nothing compared to the high jump of the main falls.

Gozalandia is a little bit of a drive out of the main towns around this area but is 100% worth the trip! Take a half-day while your in Aguadilla and take a short 40 minute drive, you wont be disappointed!

I stayed in Rincon and the waterfall was about a 40 min drive. So worth it! Luckily there was a local who guided me to the jump point since it is pretty tricky, technical and slippery. But once you get the hang of it, you just do it over and over again. Parking is now $10. I went later in the afternoon around 3p and it wasn't that crowded.

If you got there early (8-9am) you might have the place to yourself. Go to the further fall first by going right at the fork. There’s a swing and it is less crowded. Parking is 5 bucks.
