Hike to Howe Lake

The hike begins along the Inner North Fork road across from a small parking area. The trail meanders up a slight incline most of the way through areas of a recent fire, as well as some areas with spectacular wildflowers when it gets a bit more lush. Around 1.7 miles in you will go up a relatively steep ridge and once your on top you will be able to see Howe lake. The trail goes straight down to the marshy lake and gives you a really nice view of some peaks at the back end of the lake. There is an option to continue if you wanted to extend your hike. To continue you can follow the trail another 1.8 miles to Lower Howe Lake where you can connect to the Howe Ridge trail. Some other information regarding the trail. This trail is in grizzly country so make sure you are always making some kind of noise whether it be having a conversation, yelling "hey bear!", or clapping. Furthermore, you should always hike in a group and try to avoid hiking very early in the morning or in the evening hours. Regarding fishing Upper Howe Lake is closed from the beginning of general fishing season until August 1st as stated on the sign at the trail head. Lastly, always make sure to pack out your trash and leave the trail in good condition.
