This is a lesser-known gem in the Pacific Northwest that satisfies any hiker junkie.

Park at the Herman Creek Trailhead in Cascade Locks 2 miles from the exit. Remember to bring your Northwest Forest pass or a $5 payment to park.

Start ascending on the Herman Creek trail a little over a mile until you hit a three way junction for Gorton Creek Trail #408, Trail #400 and Herman Creek Trail. Trail #400 takes a hard left while Gorton Creek veers left, continue straight onto the Herman Creek trail which will become an old logging road. Continue on this path for approximately .25 miles.

Next you will run into another junction for the Nick Eaton Trail and Herman Creek Trail. To take the easier way, turn left onto the Nick Eaton trail and begin climbing switchbacks for about 2000 feet.

Once you finish climbing you will hit the Nick Eaton Cutoff trail, turn left here and descend back down on the Herman Creek Trail until you reach Indian point, approximately .75 miles away.

You can view the point from a safe distance, but if you continue on you can be up close and personal with the point. Fair warning, it is an unmaintained section of the hike with the possibility of falling rocks. If you don't do well with heights or have a fear of falling off, I recommend you do not continue to the point. Personally, I found the way to the point very safe and easy to get to without having to go near any drop offs voluntarily.

After you have finished taking in the views return the same way you came until you're back to the parking lot.
