Deep in the heart of the Gila Wilderness in the epic Gila River Canyon lies a gorgeous and pristine hot spring overlooking the valley.

The Gila Wilderness is the oldest wilderness area in The United States, and Jordan Hot Springs rests right in the heart of Canyon of the Middle Fork of the Gila River, along a stretch of the Continental Divide Trail and some 7 miles from the nearest road.

The most direct road by either car or trail is to take New Mexico State Road 15 north out of Silver City through Pinos Altos for four miles until you reach the TJ Corral, just a short distance from the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument.

Follow the trail through Little Bear Canyon for 4.25 miles until it reaches the confluence with the Middle Fork of the Gila River. Here cross the river and follow the trail upstream for approximately 2.5 miles. Regardless of the time of year there are numerous river crossings required so be sure to bring an extra pair of socks.

The hot springs themselves can be found on the north side of the river about 20 yards up the side of the canyon wall. A clear, persistent stream flows down from the spring and into the Gila River.

Be sure to check the weather reports prior to your trip as flash flooding is a serious concern in Little Bear Canyon. Further, Gila River water levels can vary *drastically* so check in with the local rangers at the NPS office.

There are camping areas on the hills and ledges above the spring and remember to leave no trace and to pack out whatever you bring with you.
