This short, dog-friendly hike leads to the second tallest waterfall in Maryland. Once you get there, relax, enjoy, and weather permitting, cool off with a swim.
This 1.2 mile roundtrip hike leads to the second tallest waterfall in the state of Maryland. It is a short hike that's great for families and bringing the dog. In the warmer months, you can swim in the pool at the base of the waterfall. People have cliff jumped here, but exercise caution and do so at your own risk.
Getting Here: From Pylesville, head west on Pylesville Road for approximately 3 miles and you will enter the parking area at the park. The trailhead will be on the west side of the lot.

Depending on where you park, the trek to the falls is relatively easy and it’s totally worth it. Absolutely beautiful Falls and well-maintained trail.

Loved visiting Kilgore. Note: Maybe check what time it opens before getting there because for winter, it doesn't open until 10 am which is pretty late. With the high water, the waterfall was great to photograph.

Nice scenery. A tad slippery in sections. Needs some options for waste disposal or some additional ropes to assist in some of the rocky areas.

Trail and scenery was really beautiful. Waterfalls and swimming area was amazing. It was pretty clean from what I saw, I just wish they would have had a trash can at the entrance. The hike was pretty easy, however would definitely recommend water shoes if your planning on going in. Or waterproof hiking boots to cut across the river.

Took a drive to this area. Loved the water fall area. I would highly recommend for ropes to be added to some parts of the trail since there’s very slippery areas. A trash can by the potty wouldn’t hurt either.

We went on this hike in early July, thankfully we arrived early because this waterfall got crowded very quickly. The hike is pretty easy, even the hike to the top of the falls is. We had a great time swimming in the creek. I was pretty disgusted with how much trash was left behind though.

It was ok, not that stuff to do. Kids and elderly people should be careful, sharp rocks all over the place.

The hike is short, but the falls are beautiful! I recommend going in the off season to avoid crowds.

This is one of my favorite spots during the warmer months. The hike itself is not challenging by any means, but the falls are a great place to swim, lay out in the sun, set up a hammock, or simply relax and be one with nature.
