Description

Added by Thomas Ostapchuk

Sweeping colours and solemn waterfalls guide the path to a still blue glacial lake. Lush green meadows are grazed by France's infamous dairy cows that clink and clank their bells as you pass. Walking into a postcard doesn't get any more real than this.

This beautiful hike features ribbon and horse tail waterfalls backdropped behind wildflowers and grazing dairy cows along the creek descending the mountain. Though there are some steep sections to the hike, this day outing is accessible by all levels of adventurer.

Getting there

After a short drive up from the town of Aime on route N90 to D87, there will be a parking area at the end of the road beside a visitor's sign.

The hike

Follow the trail up the valley to the left and continue to the lake. The trail is well-blazed and easy to stay on. There are some scenic rest spots for a drink of water or a picnic. The lake at the top is very cold, but be adventurous and go for a plunge!

Note: Though the sun can be very hot in the valley and on the hike up, wind at the lake can be very cold.

A little extra

The hike goes beyond the lake, and a refuge is available for overnight adventurers.
