Description

Peavine falls is a great place to photograph a beautiful 65-foot waterfall.

The Peavine falls parking is located at the pin. You can also follow signs to the South Trailhead and from there, follow signs to Peavine Falls. Signs are clearly marked at the parking lot leading you down to the top of the falls or the bottom of the falls. Pictures from the top of the falls are difficult to take due to the lush vegetation around the top, but the bottom is a great place to set up for an awesome shot.

For the best results when taking pictures at Peavine, going after a nice heavy rain would be optimal. If not, Peavine tends to be just a trickle of water. Also, shooting at sunset allows the sun to peek through the trees behind the waterfall. Due to the thickness of tree coverage however, sunrise would not be the best lighting.

Loved it! It doesn’t take long to get to the falls and signs are easy to follow to the top or bottom. Definitely recommend going after a rainy summer, it was stunning!

This waterfall is smaller but still very gorgeous. For a leisurely hike just follow the gravel trail from the parking lot directly to the bottom of the falls. To the left of the parking lot there is a longer trail that runs up the ridge of the mountain and offers some great views of the surrounding area through the trees. Follow the signs for the falls to end up standing over the edge watching the water rush down. I recommend going after a good rain for better waterfall pictures.

Great little hike for the family and as hard as you want it to be. This write up takes you the shortest route to the falls, but Oak Mountain State Park has an extensive trail system. You can definitely make this as hard as you'd like it to be. Fun falls to splash around in.

If you're visiting Oak Mountain State Park, a quick hike to see Peavine Falls is definitely worth it. From the South Trailhead, you can reach the falls in a half mile. From trailhead to the top of the falls the trail is wide, with a very moderate descent. Getting down to the base of the falls, the trail is steeper but still very doable for most families. As described, the falls is often just a trickle, but I have very rarely seen it completely dried up. To find it looking like the photos above you'll need to plan your trip after heavy rains. Even when the falls have a small amount of water, the pool and creek at its base are a great place to relax. If you want to add a bit more hiking than going directly to the falls and back, you can take the Green trail from Peavine Falls parking lot. Connect to the White trail, turning back towards Peavine Falls, and you'll eventually intersect the Blue trail at the top of the falls.

We came here in mid August and hiked to the waterfall overlook only to come to find it has been completely dried up. Water might be present in different seasons but for us it was a bit of a let down.

Our dog loved swimming in this falls after a long, warm hike!
