The easy hike to Rohrbaugh Cliffs provides one of the best views in Dolly Sods.
Rohrbaugh Cliffs is the social name given to the expansive views found along the Rohrbaugh Plains Trail. This easy hike in the Dolly Sods Wilderness will take you to one of the best overlooks in the area. For a longer or more challenging hike, connect this trail with one of the many others in the area.
The trail begins off Fire Road 19, just past the Dolly Sods picnic area. There is a small parking area with room for 4-5 cars across the road from the trailhead. Although the trail is not marked, it is well-worn and easy to follow. With minimal elevation gain, the 2.5 mile hike is suitable for all skill levels. However, be prepared for wet and muddy conditions.
There are many different spots to take in the views along the cliffs. The views to the west are of the Red Creek basin, and to the north you will see the most popular outcrop in Dolly Sods, Lions Head. Take some time to enjoy the views before retracing your steps to the trailhead, or continue on the Rohrbaugh Plains Trail for more adventures.
