This “urban hike” is a route out of the valley where Sarajevo sits, and up Mt Trebevic to a historic and eerie relic of the 1984 Winter Olympics
Start on the south side of the river in Sarajevo, near to the Sarajevo Brewery, and walk upward through the varied cobblestone streets of the neighborhood until you reach the GPS tag of this post.
From here, follow the street labeled on the map as Apelova Cesta. It won't be clearly marked on the road, but once you've begun walking up this road, you'll cross out of the dense neighborhoods, and onto a dirt path that follows the line of the Trebevic Gondola.
1.5 kilometres into this journey, you'll reach several structures on the mountain which were damaged and abandoned after the war, but are decorated with bullet and mortar holes as well as local graffiti.
The trail continues, heading southeast from this point and leveling out slightly. This path leads directly into a more forested area, where the bobsled tracks remain.
The tracks themselves are heavily covered in graffiti and moss, but are enormous in size and hard to miss. You can walk up the tracks, or alongside them, traveling east.
900 meters further, this path reaches a great viewpoint looking north upon the Sarajevo valley and the city below. Retrace your steps to return down to the Miljacka River.
