Easy overnighter with great views of Savage Gulf

This is a fun and easy overnight trip that is good for all ages. Start at the Stone Door Ranger Station which has plenty of parking and public restrooms as well. Follow the signs to the Stone Door Trailhead and in a short 0.8 miles you'll arrive at the edge of the gulf (canyon) and the first significant landmark. The Stone Door is a 10' crack in the canyon wall that people have used for centuries to move from the rim to the canyon floor and back again. Rather than going down into the gulf, continue west on the Big Creek Rim Trail for 3.1 miles to the Alum Gap Campground. There are several dispersed sites at this campground and you will need to make a reservation beforehand. Water is close by and Greeter Falls is a short 1.0 mile hike west from the campground also. Follow the Laurel Trail 3.0 miles back to the Ranger Station and don't miss seeing Laurel Falls before closing out your adventure.
