Hike to Suter and Horsepound Falls

Located in South Cumberland State Park in the Savage Gulf section, this is a somewhat difficult 5 mile out-and-back viewing two waterfalls, cascades, creeks, rock shelters, and high bluffs. 2 miles past Suter Falls you'll come to Horsepound Falls, a unique waterfall formation with overlooks and lush wildflowers in the spring! The two falls are located on the Collins Gulf Trail. This intermediate trail is designed to accommodate extended trips. Half the length is the Collins River Gorge and other half is along the rim. The gorge section is closed during ice buildup around Suter Falls and during times of high water. This trail can be up to 9.9 miles, if you keep hiking past Horsepound Falls and loops around. These directions are only up to reaching Horsepound Falls. 

You will put in your gps "Collins Gulf West Trailhead." From there it will give you directions to the parking lot. Once parked at the lot, you will start the hike at the trailhead beside the kiosk. You will come to the campground to the right of the main trail about .5 miles in. You will continue on the main trail. Suter Falls is about 1 mile from the parking lot. Once you've reached Suter Falls, cross the bridge and continue on the trail to reach Horsepound Falls. It is 2 miles from Suter Falls. There are trail signs along the way that will give you distance till you reach the falls. Once you've reach Horsepound Falls, retrace your steps back on the main trail and go back down the trail to Suter Falls and back to the parking lot.

There's a decent amount of trees all around, if you'd like to set up your hammock and hang out for the day. This trail is also dog-friendly with a leash!
