Description

Added by Josiah Roe

Hike through the heart of the Tucson Mountains to the ruins of the Bowen Farmstead surrounded by towering Saguaro cacti and a diversity of desert wildlife.

The Tucson Mountains are home to Saguaro National Park and the Tucson Mountain Park, the latter of which is a massive 20,000 acre park that is home to huge forests of giant saguaro cacti, a wide diversity of desert wildlife, and several long-abandoned farms and ranches like the Bowen Homestead, colloquially known as the Bowen Stone House.

The Bowen Stone House is most easily accessed via the Bowen Trail connecting into the Yetman Trail which then leads to the Stone House.

To reach the trailhead take West Starr Pass Boulevard west out of the city. The trailhead is about a tenth of a mile before the Marriott Tucson Resort on the left. The Bowen Trail is approximately .9 miles long, and from the intersection with Yetman Trail it is .3 miles to the Bowen Stone House.

Note: be sure to bring plenty of water and sunscreen particularly in warmer months as there is no water along the trail
