Description

A secluded hike to one of the best views in the park.

This hike is one of the lesser known hikes in Shenandoah. While everyone else is headed to Old Rag, hikers will find themselves on a peaceful hike to the summit of Mt. Robertson.

Hikers should park in the Old Rag Parking lot and make sure to pay the daily fee ($25). If you have a yearly pass, be sure to show it to the ranger. You can ask the ranger for the map that includes Mt. Robertson.

You will start the same way as you do for Old Rag. You will walk down the road to the trail head. Instead of turning onto the Ridge Trail you'll continue on the Weakley Hollow Fire Road. There is gradual elevation on this fire road but is generally easy walking. You'll have some bridges to cross along the way.

Watch the guideposts and continue on the Mt. Robertson trail. From here you will gain 1700 feet in 1.5 miles. The trail has many switch backs and the views are beautiful. Most of the time you'll be able to see Old Rag from the trail. Once you get to the top, you'll see a small trail to the left. It leads to a large rocky area which is the summit. From here, you can see Old Rag and Skyline Drive.

Once you have had a rest and enjoyed the views, go back down the path and take a left to continue down the Mt. Robertson trail. The trip down will be fairly quick. Once at the bottom, make a right on Old Rag Fire Road and then a right onto Corbin Hollow Trail.  A note about Corbin Hollow Trail:  this is one of the areas in the park with a lot of ruins from those who lived in the area. Please leave any and all artifacts where you find them.

Continue down Corbin Hollow until you meet back up with Weakley Hollow Fire Road and then back to the parking lot.
