Cañon del Diablo is beautiful canyon in the Sierra de San Pedro Mártir National Park with waterfalls at the base of Baja’s highest 10,157 ft peak, Picacho del Diablo.
You start outside of San Felipe, Baja California at kilometer 181 and drive on a mostly dirt roads for 33 miles to reach the trailhead. A 4x4 vehicle isn't necessarily needed but you will cross a dry lake bed and sandy sections that could be tricky. There is no cell service out here. You can find a map of the drive and the trail here.
The trail starts in area of giant Cardon Cactus (Pachycereus pringlei) and ascends up a hill for a 1/4 of a mile before the canyon begins. Watch for rock cairns and follow the foot steps left by previous hikers. Soon you will see and hear the water. The water is crystal clear but extremely cold. The last waterfall has a fixed rope to help you across the smooth granite walls. The hike is only about three miles but allow plenty of time to enjoy the falls and safely return to your vehicle. The cactus are huge and form a forest that is easy to get lost in if you don't follow the track back.

Reviews
Really fun hike up a river bed with beautiful diverse scenery. The canons offer deep pools and waterfalls with lots of opportunities to climb around the rocks and explore. We even saw some anchors to do some climbing. We camped just above the trailhead and had a couple guests staying in the nearby area. Side note: don't recommend driving in at night. First you can get lost easily since there is no cell sigal - download the Google map in the link above to help you stay on the road. Second watch out for paramilitary cars who don't have issues with shaking down a group of unsuspecting tourists!
