Tons of land and water activities for the whole family, even your dog! Convenient for Bend residents and visitors. Short 3-mile loop hike around the scenic river. Shops and restaurants close by. A perfect outdoor escape.
There are quite a few urban trails along the Deschutes River, but my favorite runs just South of the Old Mill District near the Farewell Bend Park.
Here you will find a gravel loop trail that is private and relaxing, but also very convenient to other amenities such as restrooms, shops, and restaurants.
Start out by parking in the Old Mill District parking lot near Bond Street. You can begin walking along either side of the river. I prefer to cross to the West side of the river to start.Once you pass through the tunnel under Bond street, you will begin walking along the paved trail lining the river. You will pass by Riverbend Park where you can stop to let your dog take a swim. You will then reach a pedestrian bridge. This is where the pavement ends and the gravel Deschutes River Trail begins. Continue walking along the river, following the gravel trail.
This is a 3 mile loop trail. As you continue down the West side of the river you will come to another pedestrian bridge. Once you cross the bridge you will continue your hike along the opposite side of the river.
Along your hike you will likely see several little animals including ducks, squirrels, and beavers. You may also come across some rock climbers bouldering along the shoreline.
At the end of the trail on the East side of the river you will walk past a small beach, picnic area, playground, and public restroom facilities in Farewell Bend Park.
There are several active things to choose to do along this river area. While the trail should only take you an hour, you could spend all day at the river here. Enjoy!

Great place for the family to take a walk along the river. There are many places to go off the path to go down to the river as well

Beautiful hike along the Deshchutes river. It's a must if you are in Bend. Try to grab a beer in town at the many different breweries!

This is a really beautiful trail that follows along the river its entire length. I would not call it extremely picturesque, but it still is really peaceful to hear the water rushing below you.
