How I've Been Inspired by My Backyard
Why travel far to take a great picture, when the backyard will often suffice!
I have a mantra in life that I should always be inspired by where I live. I have done a pretty good job of this in my life, where I would say that 80% of my days have been spent in places that have a view worth waking up for at least a 5 minute walk from my front door. I have lived in some pretty incredible locations, and I think that largely contributes to much of my inspiration in photography. I would even go so far as to say that I have now been “ruined” in that I will not be able to live in a location that does not have a somewhat spectacular view! All of the following images were taken no further than 200 metres from my door in some of the places I have lived over the last 28 years!
KELOWNA, BRITISH COLUMBIA
The view that started it all! I moved to this house when I was 7 years old, and it is always spectacular!
CMH ADAMANTS, BRITISH COLUMBIA
One of my most unique residences was located deep in the wilderness of British Columbia, Canada. Treated to some of the most amazing views I have ever seen over the Goldstream Valley and Downie Peak.
NORTH VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA
My move to Vancouver took me to a new landscape. It provided me with some new challenges, but still provided me with some stunning views. Living 200 metres from the ocean was a new environment for me, but I ended up really enjoying my time there.
CANMORE, ALBERTA
Living in the heart of the Canadian Rocky Mountains provided me with the most amazing photography opportunities, and was where I started seriously getting into photography. With stunning landscapes everywhere you turn, all I really had to do was buy a half decent camera, and get out there!
I now currently live in Whistler British Columbia, where I am sure that I will be able to continue my portfolio of backyard imagery for many years to come!
