Kayak Sea Caves on the Broken Rocks Trail

Port Austin, Michigan

Description

Added by Travis Smith

One of the most scenic paddles on the Great Lakes. Explore huge rock formations, sea caves, and picnic on Table Rock.

Your paddle begins at Veteran's Waterfront Park in Port Austin. This is a beautiful sandy beach with plenty of parking.

From here, paddle west. I like to stick close to shore to check out everything up close and to minimize the waves.

Not far into your paddle, you will come across your first big rock formations and a couple sea caves to paddle into. Keep paddling and you will come across beautiful and clear turquoise water surrounded by large rocks and coves. Your trip ends at Table Rock - the large flat rock at the point. This rock is public property. Stop and rest before your paddle back the same way you came.

Total round trip - 3.4 miles (2-4 hours)

*Disclaimers: Respect the homeowner's property. The only rock that is public (and not private) is Table Rock. You are allowed to do all that you want in the water, but don't get out of your kayak unless it's at Table Rock. Also, check the Marine Forecast before you go. This should only be attempted when waves are 2 feet or less and winds are 0-10 knots.
