Kayak the Laguna Beach State Marine Preserve
Laguna Beach, California
Description
Added by Josiah Roe
12 square miles of pristine protected marine wildlife preserve with dolphins, whales, northern fur seals, cormorants and a host of other wildlife to enjoy.
Whether you're a beginning, intermediate, or advanced paddler, there are numerous ways to explore via sea kayak the protected waters off the coast of Laguna Beach. You can bring your own or rent and book a tour from several shops in town.
An excellent starting point is at Fisherman's Cove just off cliff drive, with excellent parking and wide stairs with room to take a kayak up and down.
From the cove you can head either north, past Shaw's Cove, the dramatic Two Rock Point where you can often see Cormorants fishing and Northern Fur Seals resting, and towards the Crystal Cove Marine Preservation area, or you can head south past the Laguna Beach downtown and onwards to Halfway Rock and the Laguna Beach Sea Caves. The truly fit and adventurous could even explore as far as Dana Point, a couple miles to the south.
As always, be sure to check the weather and the current tide times and charts.

Reviews
If you want the best way to see the Laguna coast, this is it. You'll have the most incredible views of North Laguna, the tidepools, the homes, the little beaches, and coves. It's incredible.
