Kelty Trail Ridge 2 Person Tent Review
Get your chill on with this spacious tent that offers plenty of subtle yet highly functional features.
We recently tested out the Kelty Trail Ridge 2 person tent and we were really impressed with the features it offers. My two personal favorites are the dual doors and the near vertical walls. My previous tents have one way in and one way out and this is fine if you're camping by yourself, but climbing over gear and/or another person can be a hassle, especially when nature calls in the middle of the night. Thankfully Kelty has doors on both sides of this tent so this isn't an issue. Additionally, the side walls are pushed out thanks to the exterior design which makes the interior walls more vertical resulting in more space.
Kelty created the tent setup to be as simple as possible; everything on the footprint, tent and rain fly is color coded so you don't have to guess when assembling. Kelty also went the extra mile and created the rain fly to allow you to stargaze while being able to tie everything down in the event of bad weather. I'm never one to skip attaching the rain fly, simply because I don't want an unexpected storm to wake me up in the middle of the night. The stargazing option on the Trail Ridge allows you to enjoy the nighttime view and in the event you want to fully secure the rain fly it will only take a minute or two to completely tie it down.
The tent is a great backpacking tent if there are two of you and if you are hiking solo, this tent will give you extra room (but of course with the added weight). Everything bundles up real nice and if you are extremely organized the bag it comes in fits everything really well. Or if you are like me you can stuff the footprint, tent and rain fly in your pack and secure the poles to the outside of your pack.
It's difficult to create a tent that stands out from the rest, but with the simple color coded construction design, stargazing option with the rain fly, dual doors and internal storage options, the Kelty Trail Ridge Tent gives you just about everything you would want and need. Lastly, everything seems really well built, which is to be expected with a brand like Kelty. During our initial set-up, it's easy to recognize that everything is well-constructed; from the poles, taped seams, hug clips and guy lines.
I'm glad to have this tent and I expect it to hold up for quite some time. I can't imagine finding another option that is going to give me everything this tent offers. If you're in the market for a solid 2-person tent, give the Trail Ridge line a try.
