Lake Obernberg: A Hidden Gem in the Austrian Tirol
One of Tirol's Best Kept Secrets
Lake Obernberg is the Austrian Tirol is in my opinion one of the most beautiful lakes in the area. And while it is a popular spot with the locals, it's not so regularly visited by tourists, meaning that it stays pretty quiet all year round.
The village of Oberberg is very close to the Italian border, around 40 minutes drive from the city of Innsbruck. To reach the lake, you need to drive through a narrowing valley to a car park at the far end. A short 30 minute hike up brings you to the lake. The crystal clear turquoise waters of the lake are surrounded by tall pine trees, which means that the first glimpse you get of the lake is when you are standing right next to it.
