With nearly 50 miles of prime singletrack just a few miles outside of Roanoke, VA, Carvins Cove has become one of the premier mountain biking destinations on the east coast. And with trails that range from beginner to expert, you're sure to find something that suits your taste.
Carvins Cove draws attention from all over the mountain biking community, and has so much to offer both the beginner and expert alike. The best place to access the trails is from the Bennet Springs parking lot on Carvins Cove Road...the pin on the map will take you right there. There is a $2 daily land use fee, or an annual pass may be purchased for $20, both of which can be purchased at the self serve station at the parking lot.
If you're an experienced rider, hop on the trails nearest the parking lot (Hi-Dee-Hoe or Buck). Both of these are long climbs with significant elevation gain, but allow some pretty epic and technical downhills on the other side of the mountain. Just remember you have to climb back up though!!
If you're newer to riding or just prefer some flatter, but ultra fun trails, continue biking down Carvins Cove road for approximately one mile until it ends at the gate. Bike through the gate and you will be on the Happy Valley fire road with quick access to the other trails, including the appropriately named Enchanted Forest, a must do trail for all who come to Carvins Cove.
A trail map is available here, or you may purchase one for $1 at "Just the Right Gear", a bike shop conveniently located on the way to Carvins Cove on Catawba Valley Road. I highly recommend that you familiarize yourself with the trail system prior to your ride, and you'll likely want to bring your map along with you on the first few rides.
The Cove is an amazing destination for mountain bikers of all skill levels. Just bring plenty of water and enjoy the day!

Reviews
I am in no way, shape, or form a great MTB rider, so Enchanted Forest was the perfect starter trail for me. If you're looking to wade into the MTB world, its a great place to 'catch the bug'!
