Mountain Bike Prince Creek

Carbondale, Colorado

Description

Added by Ben Thomas

Rolling single track. Ride over an Abandoned Monte Carlo Sedan. Massive views of Mount Sopris. Minutes from Main Street Carbondale (and post-ride brews!).

Turn south off Colorado State Highway 82 onto Highway 133 toward Carbondale. Continue south past the Carbondale Main Street roundabout. After two miles, turn East onto Prince Creek Road. Follow this four miles to where the pavement ends. This is the best place to park to start biking or running.

From there, head up the road until you reach a large cattle gate. If you’d rather start riding single track, on the left side of the road, single track trails begin. You can take this trail parallel to the road or continue up Prince Creek Road. After about two miles, keep your eye out for the Porcupine Road turnoff heading North. There are a couple of single-track options that spur off Porcupine road, but for a simple loop, stay on the Porcupine Road until it runs into a T-junction, about a mile in.

For a longer ride, you can head right and connect with the Crown Mountain trails. For our shorter loop, head downhill to the left. After about a half of a mile, the road crosses a ravine. On the downhill side of the ravine, the downhill-only Geronimo trail drops back down to the road-side single-track. Once you hit the road, turn west and head back down to your car. Or, head up the loop for another lap!

These trails can be run as well! Please be considerate to other trail users. This is a great multi-use trail system; be respectful. A couple trails are one-way and have warning signs at the bottom. For fun and safety's sake, please pay attention to them!

There are PLENTY of trails in the Prince Creek recreation area! Everything from the afternoon loop described to all-day 20+ mile loops up and over the Crown. Stop by Carbondale’s bike shops, Aloha Mountain Cyclery or Ajax Bike and Ski to get up to date trail conditions and ride recommendations. For runners, Independence Run and Hike is the shop for you; they'll have routes and conditions for you as well!
